General Information

Fire Police are an important part of our community. Correctly termed 'Special Fire police', they have limited powers of law control to enable them to protect the public, protect the firefighters at a fire scene and provide traffic and crowd control.

Pennsylvania is one of only a few states to recognize Fire Police.

The Fire Police often bear the brunt of the public's frustration and are trained to calmly deal with abusive and sometimes aggressive persons who complain that they are delayed or detoured because of a road closure. Please bear in mind that these volunteers are just that, volunteers, and would rather be going about their day-to-day activities than be stood out in the middle of the road, or freezing/boiling hot days with 7000lb "missiles" coming at them, only to be abused by a frustrated driver.

Fire Police Mark Smith

Mark is primarily a Firefighter, but doubles up as Fire Police when needed.

Mark is the guy with the weird accent. Mark joined New Tripoli Fire Company in December 2002 after moving to New Tripoli (and the USA) , from Torpoint, near Plymouth, England in August 2001.

Mark was not a firefighter in England, but belonged to St. John Ambulance, which is an organization dedicated to first aid and educating kids on first responder methods.

Mark lives in New Tripoli with his wife, Toni, and his two children, Josh & Siôbhan (pronounced Shi-Vaughn).

Mark works full time for Lattice Semiconductor, defining and designing microchips for telecommunication systems.
